Based on the most downloaded app of all time (nearly 3.5 billion downloads), the film that catapulted to #1 at the box office in the U.S. and more than 50 others countries, The Angry Birds Movie is now available on Blu-ray/DVD from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Boasting an “A” CinemaScore with viewers under age 25, the film quickly became one of the highest-grossing video game based films of all time.

To coincide with the Blu-Ray/DVD release, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment(SPHE) has partnered with the American Heart Association (AHA) and the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition for the launch of the “Angry Birds, Happy Bodies” fitness initiative in celebration of The Angry Birds Movie’s popularity and success.

As part of the initiative, Red and his fellow Angry Birds are working to inspire fans of the hit film to join them in going from zero to 60 for a healthy lifestyle. “Angry Birds, Happy Bodies” aims to encourage kids and their families to complete 60 minutes of physical activity each day, as recommended by the AHA, and supports the Physical Education programs in schools which incorporate activity into students’ routines and teach lifelong healthy habits.

During the national live events, students and their families will learn fun and easy ways to stay active and create happy bodies, minds and communities to help kick off the new school year with healthy goals. Led by AHA’s remarkable “jump teams,” students will also participate in jump rope challenges which they can make a part of their daily fitness routines.

“We love that Red, Chuck and Bomb are helping kids keep their minds and bodies happy and healthy,” said Lexine Wong, SPHE’s Senior Executive Vice President, Worldwide Marketing. “With our release of The Angry Birds Movie timed around the global athletic events in Rio, it is the perfect time to encourage everyone to keep active.”

I recently spoke with John Cohen, producer of The Angry Birds Movie, to learn more about what inspired the making of the film, details on the “Angry Birds, Happy Bodies” initiative, and the surprises that await Angry Birds fans on the Blu-Ray/DVD.
