I have been trying to juggle so much during these past few months that my life has increasingly become incredibly hectic – far more than before! I am in the middle of renovating my home, my roles of wife, mother, blogger, and homemaker have shifted (one again), and our family have pushed through one unexpected problem after another. All of this while trying to plan for the upcoming Holiday season. It’s enough to make any woman stressed out and start to feel the weight of the world. I even think that I’ve seen a couple of new gray hairs emerge from my head! The days and nights have been running together to the point where the word “balance” is sometimes an act that is nonexistent for me.
When life gets like this, I have found that the best thing for me to do to put myself on pause and steal a moment to get away from it all. Even if it is nothing more than hiding out in the bathroom (hey, what Mom hasn’t done it?!), just a few minutes to myself helps me to distress, clear my mind, and get myself back on track to continue to handle my life. Whenever I don’t get the time that I need, I always feel myself slowly falling apart.
I am not the only Mom in the world that craves ‘me time’ and finds it beneficial to my overall wellness. In fact, according to a survey of Moms conducted by Fruitwater and BlogHer, 96 percent of moms want more time for themselves! That’s a lot of Moms!!
The survey asked Moms what they do with their stolen moments, what they would and would not give up to steal a moment and the lengths they would go to find time for themselves. While half of Moms surveyed said they too use the bathroom for a ‘brief retreat,’ other Moms use a little creativity—from volunteering to take a friend to the airport, waking up an extra hour early or spending a little too much time running errands (I do this one myself)!
Fruitwater recently launched a special #stealamoment campaign with Hollywood sensation, with brand spokesperson and partner Christina Applegate to encourage Moms everywhere to remember to add a little more me-time in their daily routine.
“Like all moms, I can never seem to find enough time in the day, so I understand the importance of making some me-time and the creative thinking needed to accomplish that,” Applegate said.
With the demands of meetings, playdates, housework and homework in our lives, it is important to take time to ourselves whenever we can so that we do not burn out. It can be tough sometimes, but as Moms, we must work to steal a moment in order to stay mentally, physically, and emotionally healthy for our families.
