Tom Hiddleston gives a critically-acclaimed performance in Sony Pictures Classics’ and RatPac Entertainment’s I SAW THE LIGHT, that debuted on Blu-ray®, DVD and digital July 5 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. I SAW THE LIGHT is the story of the legendary country western singer Hank Williams (Tom Hiddleston), who in his brief life created one of the greatest bodies of work in American music. The film chronicles his meteoric rise to fame and its ultimately tragic effect on his health and personal life, leading to his untimely death at age 29. The film also starring Elizabeth Olsen, Cherry Jones, Bradley Whitford, Maddie Hasson, and Wrenn Schmidt.
Bonus features on the I SAW THE LIGHT Blu-ray, DVD and digital releases include two featurettes. Viewers can go behind-the-scenes to explore the making of this intimate and gripping portrait of a musical icon in “Illuminating A Legend: Inside I Saw The Light,” while in “Talking Hank,” Hiddleston and multi-Grammy winner, member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and musical director Rodney Crowell sit down with Peter Cooper from The Country Music Hall of Fame to discuss Hank Williams, his music and how Tom prepared to portray the musical visionary.
I had the pleasure of speaking with veteran Nashville singer, songwriter and producer Rodney Crowell to talk his role as Executive Music Producer on the film as well his task of coaching and crafting Tom Hiddleston’s realistic performance of Hank Williams. Hiddleston said this of Rodney’s coaching, ” We started shooting the film on October 18, 2014, and I went to Nashville on September 3 and I stayed with Rodney for five weeks. He was my tutor in the ways of the blues – my coach in every respect. He just guided me through everything in a way.” His goal, he says, “was simply to sing the songs and play the songs. I read the script, did my own research, and then literally we shut ourselves in, in his house in Tennessee, and we’d just live and breathe Hank Williams, and the tradition of folk music.”
Take a look at my chat with Rodney below.

Rodney Crowell(Executive Music Producer)
Rodney Crowell is a Texas-born, Nashville-based songwriter, artist, producer and author whose work and career sets a benchmark for commercial success and lifelong artistic ambition and integrity in country and roots music. His compositions, including “Til I Gain Control Again,” “I Ain’t Livin’ Long Like This,” “Song For The Life” and “Ashes By Now” have been widely and successfully covered by legendary singers. But he led the way as a recording artist, achieving a dazzling run of radio hits in the 1980s, followed by a series of more personal albums in the 2000s that secured his place as much more than a chart-topper. His 2011 memoir Chinaberry Sidewalks, vividly fleshed out the life story of this sincere and complex artist. Crowell is a Grammy Award winner, a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and the recipient of the 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting from the Americana Music.
