John Legend shows no signs of slowing down. Fresh off of the heels of his monumental Academy Award win, the singer/songwriter lent his time and talent to perform for some of the biggest names in entertainment last Friday in support of One Night for ONE DROP. Hosted by Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas and sponsored by MGM Resorts International, the one-night-only benefit raised more than $6 million for ONE DROP, the non-profit organization created by Cirque du Soleil Founder Guy Laliberte. All proceeds from the event will support water access initiatives across the globe.
The charity event captivated the audience as more than 100 Cirque du Soleil performers gave an extraordinary performance directed by Mukhtar O.S. Mukhtar inside The Beatles™ LOVE™ Theatre. John Legend provided a memorable moment during the show with a special rendition of his smash hit “All of Me,” and closed the night with a standing ovation as he performed “Dreams.”
“We really needed an ambassador-type of person who could really connect with the cause that ONE DROP is,” said Mukhtar O.S. Mukhtar, Director and Creator for One Night for ONE DROP.
John is no stranger to charitable causes. Throughout the years, he has shown that he has a huge heart for children and community awareness. John Legend has supported a variety of social good causes such as Teach For America, the Harlem Village Academies, and Stand for Children.
This year marks a major milestone for ONE DROP as it receives special recognition from the United Nations with the closing of the International Decade for Action on Water (2000-2015). Honored with the ‘Water for Life’ Best Practices Award, ONE DROP is celebrated specifically for its artistic approach to change behaviors in how people deal with water.
