onerepublic-raises-money-new-schoRock band OneRepublic  have raised $100,000 to help build a new school in in the Sandy Hook, Connecticut community following the terrible tragedy that occurred at the area’s elementary school in December of last year.

The band set up a campaign on the fundraising website IndieGogo.com almost immediately after the news broke of what had happened in the hope of collecting money to help provide support to the families of those killed in the shooting. Their initial goal was to raise $50,000.

 .

To express their gratefulness in receiving the overwhelming response to their call-to-action for the community, the band took to their Twitter account on Monday saying, “THNKS 2 ALL who donated $$ to our Sandy Hook Elementary Victims Fund-doubled the goal of 50k-sent $100k last week 2 help build a new school!”

They continued by tweeting, “We can’t imagine what the families of Newton, CT have gone thru in the last 3 + months- still haven’t forgotten- hope 2 visit the new school.”

.

This was such an awesome thing for the guys of OneRepublic to do! Instead of simply writing a check, they demonstrated the power of unity, and how the community can come together and pool resources in order to support a greater good and make a real and positive difference in the wake of a tragic situation. I greatly applaud their efforts!
