I have been styling teen natural hair for nearly a decade. During my journey of raising two daughters in the past 22 years, I have seen it all when it comes to discovering the best practices for natural hairstyling. Needless to say, I have also learned a thing or two about ensuring that teen natural hair is consistently beautiful, smooth, and tangle-free.

There are 4 key lessons that I have learned over the years in styling teen natural hair:

.

Learn the products that are best for your daughter’s hair

One of the biggest mistakes that I made when I had my second daughter is buying the same hair care products for both of them. I had to learn the hard way that not all natural hair is the same. What worked wonders for my oldest daughter’s hair did the absolute opposite for my youngest daughter. I also learned that hair can change as kids grow into their teen years.

My youngest daughter is now 14. For her hair, I use Just For Me Natural Hair Nutrition products. I have trusted Just For Me for years because I know that their products will cause her minimal discomfort during the washing and styling process, plus keep my daughter’s hair looking its best.

Establish the Right Foundation

One of the number-one things that I’ve learned in caring for teen natural hair through years is that the success of styling teen natural hair all begins with the foundation. This means using the cleanser that is not only best-suited for natural hair, but also offers an effective, yet gentle cleansing. I use the Just For Me Detangling Creamy Co-Wash for my daughter because it provides a worry-free, comfortable detangling and washing experience for her natural hair. It removes impurities without stripping hair of natural oils, preparing her hair for styling.

Conditioning and Hydration is Key

When I first began washing and styling my daughters’ natural hair, I noticed how dry and brittle it would be after styling. I soon learned how important that if I wanted their hair to be soft, I needed to keep it adequately conditioned and properly moisturized. To achieve this, I now use Just For Me Nourishing Leave-in Conditioner and Creamy Butter Moisturizer. Both provide the perfect balance of moisture needed to hydrate and style teen natural hair on a daily basis.

Protect It and Keep It Frizz-Free

Teen girls are very meticulous about their appearance. No girl wants to start off with a beautifully styled head of hair in the morning, and wound up with frizz and flyaway hair at the end of the day. My daughter trusts me to help her beautiful. Just For Me Moisture-Rich Styling Smoothie helps to smooth and stretch her hair during the styling process, while protecting it from wind, rain, and other harsh weather with beautiful results every time.

It has always been important to me that both of my daughters always feel confident with their natural hair – specially during their teen years. I am so glad that I have mastered the art of styling and caring for teen natural hair, and that I have products like the Just For Me Natural Hair Nutrition line on my side to keep my daughters’ hair looking it absolute best each and every day.
