the-magic-school-bus-exhibit-the-magic-house-st-louis #magicschoolbus #magichousestlouisLast Thursday saw the youngest member of the household turning 6 years old! Since he has never been one for sitting still for any amount of time, I always try to plan activities for him that I know will satisfy his high level of busyness as well as his curiosity.

My son has a huge fascination with the weather! So when I learned of the special traveling exhibit at The Magic House Children’s Museum, I knew that it would be the perfect place for the family to celebrate his birthday.

I was really pleased to see thatThe Magic School Bus Kicks Up a Storm’ exhibit has something for everyone! There are lots of weather related activities throughout the exhibit. Most of the activities are hands-on and highly interactive, with information on every type of weather imaginable:  from snow and rain to heat and hurricanes.

This station not only shows what a thunderstorm in Cape Canaveral, Florida looks and sounds like, but it also teaches how to determine storm distance and what causes lightning.

All of us had a great time as they made their way around to each ‘weather station’ in the exhibit. We each got a chance to do things like measure lightning distance, create our own unique snowflakes by using ice crystals, and go ‘on location’ as reporters dressed for various types of extreme weather.

The Magic School Bus Kicks Up a Storm’ exhibit is awesome! The birthday boy had a great time, and so did the rest of us! He enjoyed it so much—and learned so much—that he was recapping weather terms and features from the exhibit to everyone we encountered after we left!

  • Looks like a great exhibit! Really makes a difference these days when kids are used to interactive activities with a high-tech feel. I wish we’d have had more exhibits like this when I was a kid!
